Player of the week: Na Li

After her great breakthrough in 2006, 2007 was a hard season for Na Li, as injuries prevented her to get her top level and she even missed a big part of the season. But 2008 has started in a different way. With an eye on Beijing Olympic Games, Li has made a great comeback in Gold Coast tournament. Not only she has taken the title, but she has also beaten three Top 20 players including Sybille Bammer, Patty Schnyder and Nicole Vaidisova and also raising talent Victoria Azarenka in the final. She has made it in her own style, overcoming difficult situations in the matches against Bammer, Schnyder and Azarenka, which were decided in the third set. A great fighter who truly deserves our first "Player of the week" award.

  1. She is just amazing. She was so unlucky last year. She lost a lot of points for the injury; she wasnt able to defend her QF points of Wimbledon and 4r of the US Open. But it seems that long break hasnt been that bad for her. She seems so confident and so hungry. She said she thinks she is a better player now. She feels stronger mentally. And that has been her biggest trouble. She said "A new Li Na has come back" and that she is ready to get into the Top Ten. She will be there for sure if injuries respect her body...

It has been a great comeback. When she is on, she can be unstoppable. Her powerful shots are awesome. Its incredible how hard she hits the ball. Azarenka hits hard too, but she seemed like Dominguez Lino compared to Li. Li made a lot of more winners than her, and was just dictating the match. She was making all in the match: winners and UEs. Lets see if she can be a bit more consistent. If she does it, top players can be really scared... and Im sure they are wishing to avoid her in Australian Open draw.

We will see what happens in the first Grand Slam of the year in a few days ;)

It's great to see Li back at her best level. A lot of players should be scared now!
She'll be a though contender for Olympics as she'll be really motivated and if she stays healthy she will be Top 10 by the end of the year.
