WTA ranking as of 2-Feb-2009
Serena Williams is the new WTA #1 after getting the Australian Open title, while runner-up Dinara Safina climbs to #2 and previous #1 Jelena Jankovic falls to #3. Semifinalist Elena Dementieva stays at #4 while the other semifinalist Vera Zvonareva climbs from #7 to #5. Quarter-finalist Marion Bartoli gains 6 places to #11, while Jie Zheng climbs from #24 to #20 to reach the Top 20 for the first time. Surprising youngsters Alisa Kleybanova and Carla Suarez break into the Top 30, reaching career-high rankings at #28 and #30, but the greatest climb this week is for the amazing comeback of Jelena Dokic, climbing from #187 to #91 after reaching the quarterfinals.
